Identity and Access Management (IAM) is a crucial component of data center security infrastructure that focuses on
managing user identities, authenticating users, controlling access to resources, and ensuring accountability.
AAA is a framework that encompasses three fundamental processes in IAM. Authentication verifies the identity of users attempting to access resources. Authorization determines what actions and resources users are permitted to access, while Accounting tracks and logs user activities for auditing and accountability purposes.
MFA enhances security by requiring users to provide multiple forms of authentication. This typically involves combining something the user knows (e.g., password), something the user possesses (e.g., a physical token), and something the user is identified with (e.g., biometric data).
PIM solutions focus on managing and securing privileged accounts, which have elevated access privileges within the data center environment. These solutions enforce stricter controls.
NAC solutions regulate and control access to the network based on predefined security policies. They enforce authentication and authorization before allowing devices to connect to the network.
VPNs create secure encrypted connections over public or untrusted networks, allowing remote users or branch offices to securely access the data center's resources.
